Cefalexin for rabbits

First-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used off-label in rabbits for skin infections, abscesses and some urinary tract infections. Avoided by some rabbit-savvy vets due to GI dysbiosis risk — used with caution and probiotic support. Active ingredient: cefalexin.

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate inspects every approved online pharmacy on the same cycle as a practice dispensary.
When will live Cefalexin pricing be available on Vet Bill Saver?
Rabbit medication pricing rolls out through summer 2026 (D2). Sign up on this page and we will email you the moment Cefalexin pricing goes live at any of the six VMD-approved UK online pharmacies.
Do I need a prescription to order Cefalexin for rabbits?
Yes. Cefalexin is a POM-V product and requires a written prescription from a UK-registered vet. From 23 September 2026 the CMA Order caps the prescription fee at £21 for the first medicine plus £12.50 per additional medicine on the same prescription.
